The Sounds of a Diva, Without the Ego.
"There is something honest about the way that you sing," I was once told by a professor and choir director, on why I would solo, over others with bigger voices and more perfect technique. To understand and communicate has always been for me the goal of performance. My own ego was, is, and always will be distantly secondary to that goal of taking a message, an emotion, and delivering it as effectively as possible. Over the course of my lifetime, I have made it a point to collect varying tools, techniques, and styles to achieve that end, and I will use any means available. I have formally studied classical and jazz styles, and informally, classic rock, folk, and pop.
Much is said about being able to "think outside of the box." While I am a deeply creative person who enjoys exploring new ideas, I have also studied sociology, and understand that the "box" is usually there for a reason. Thus, whenever possible, I am much more likely to think inside the box - but with new and unexpected colours.
